As we continue to flatten the curve and fight against the COVID-19 virus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) now mandated people to wear a washable cloth face mask all the time when going outside.
Cloth face masks can help a lot in flattening the curve, preventing people who carry the virus but may not be showing any symptoms from spreading it by containing the respiratory droplets that we all expel when we talk, cough, or sneeze.
The question is how do you wash your cloth face mask and how often?
The CDC recommends washing your cloth face mask at least once a day. However, if your living in an area where many positive cases are declared, you’re a frontline worker or spend your time in public, consider changing your cloth face mask every two hours, if possible and wash.
1. The proper way of removing your fabric face mask is through its gartered straps, avoiding touching the front.
2. Wash your hands immediately after removing it with soap.
3. Boiling your cloth face mask for at least 5 minutes is the easiest way to sanitize your face mask. Soak fabric face mask using detergents with bleach-like compounds or other active ingredients that kill microbes more effectively than standard detergents.
*Please note to consider the material of cloth face mask was made. The Deluge face mask is made of cotton blend, therefore it is advised to wash the fabric face mask with cold or warm water using mild detergents to avoid shrinking.
4. Hang your face masks to dry on the hottest setting on your dryer or under the sunlight. You can also disinfect masks by ironing.
